The CMF is hiring a Director of Industry and Market Trends to join its team.
The role of the Director of Industry and Market Trends is to ensure the CMF’s policies for supporting the production of Canadian television and digital media content are aligned with emerging trends and developments in the industry in Canada and internationally. The Director will monitor key trends and developments in terms of emerging technologies, business models and production financing, regulation, and public policy initiatives in order to provide the CMF with market intelligence to develop effective policies and ensure the CMF’s strategic positioning.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Positions the CMF as an essential source of industry knowledge and information by monitoring emerging industry and public policy trends, responding to internal and external research requests, and representing the organization on committees and at industry events.
- Provides expertise in the development of policy and strategy.
- Manages staff and budget resources of the Industry and Market Trends team to achieve corporate objectives.
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills, experience, and qualifications:
- University degree in business or media or a relevant field, or equivalent education and experience.
- Minimum 8-10 years professional experience in a management position.
- In depth knowledge of the Canadian media sector, with particular emphasis on online, mobile, and other digital platforms.
- Understands how the Canadian media industry’s production and distribution sectors interact to create content.
- Demonstrates working knowledge of legislation, regulations, and other public policy factors impacting the industry.
- Strong ability to synthesize and distill large volumes of information into salient top line points and determine ramifications.
- Ability to manage multiple time-sensitive priorities with minimal supervision and to work with a sense of urgency.
- Proven superior communication skills, both oral and written.
- Bilingualism (English & French) is an asset.
- Demands frequent travel outside the usual workplace.
