Marketing Communications Specialist – Toronto

Job DescriptionSummary:

This specialist will drive strategically drive promotion of the Thermo Scientific brand and the division’s products and services as an integrated offering to the customer base, with a special focus on the Canadian market.

 

This position works with the commercial team and product managers to analyze, plan, and implement effective promotional plans to drive business growth.  This position includes actively participating in project teams that align our offerings with the way customers and prospects work.  The individual will focus on individual products, product lines, vertical market offerings, capabilities offerings, and service product offerings.  The specialist will participate in planning the annual budget to fund the programmes, and will manage the scheduling and implementation of those programmes throughout the year, working closely with appropriate marketing and commercial colleagues.  Specific programmes to be planned and developed include advertisements, product and press releases, direct mailers, product introductions, product collateral, etc.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Strong preference for post-secondary degree in related discipline(science and/or marketing).
  • Minimum 5 years related experience.
  • Bilingualism (English and French) an asset.

  • KNOWLEDGE: Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of industry practices and company policies and procedures; resolves a wide range of issues in imaginative as well as practical ways.

  • Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors.
  • Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.

SUPERVISION:

  • Receives little instruction on day-to-day work, general instructions on new assignments.
  • Technical writing skills and high comfort level with scientific topics required; Scientific background highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated superior written and oral communications skills, as well as superior interpersonal/relationship skills – intercultural skills and experience a plus along with strong customer orientation.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and projects.
  • Ability to work effectively and influence others in a matrixed environment including work within and among teams and influence others at all levels to move projects forward.
  • Ability to relate independent technical offerings to a comprehensive, application or market oriented solution.
  • Experience with a variety of computer programs including Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Adobe Acrobat, and Photoshop.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Project, Access and contact management databases is a plus.. High level of intensity and comfort level with change
  • Strong prioritization, and decision-making skills. Ability to articulate and show commitment to the Thermo Scientific brand and the Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry Division.
  • Ability to embrace and proactively support division priorities over individual product line goals when necessary.
