Reporter/Photographer – Brooks & County Chronicle

The Brooks & County Chronicle, an award-winning independent and locally owned weekly community newspaper has an immediate opening in its newsroom for a committed Reporter/ Photographer.

We are a diverse multi-cultural community on the TransCanada Hwy. in southeastern Alberta boasting an AJHL team; the Medicine Hat College satellite campus; home riding to a Provincial government Minister. We’re strong on community, sports, kids and volunteers reaching over 20 communities with our product.
Qualifications:

* You must hold a recognized journalism degree or diploma with experience in community, niche or daily publications.
* You are an independent, energetic, self-motivated and reliable person who will serve as our newspaper ambassador in the city and small county communities of over 22,000 residents, where your professional reputation means everything.
* You show a passion and curiosity for uncovering stories that matter to the daily lives of our many readers from a variety of backgrounds; demonstrate strong news judgement; possess quality writing and photography skills; and are able to meet tight deadlines.
* Your stories are clear, concise, fact-based with an unbiased view.
* You possess organization and time-management skills.
* You are familiar with CP or AP styles.
* Experience with digital photography is a must. Our company provides the necessary photography equipment to our reporters and equipment training basics.
* Your technical assets include experience in the Mac environment using Adobe Photoshop for colour correction, InDesign and/or QuarkXpress for page layout.
* You must hold a valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation.
* You must be willing to relocate to this market.

This full time position requires flexible scheduling including some evenings and weekends.
