Web Programmer – St. Joseph’s Health Centre – Toronto

Salary: $31.091-$39.002 per hour

Position Profile:

The Corporate Communications & Public Affairs Department is responsible for overseeing all of the Health Centre’s internal and external communications including media relations. It is a fast-paced environment that operates under tight deadlines.

This full-time position will be reporting to the Chief of Corporate Communications & Public Affairs and will be responsible for developing and maintaining the hospital’s external website and Intranet. This position is also responsible for writing and maintaining the content of our website and Intranet in partnership with the rest of the Corporate Communications & Public Affairs team as well as other departments and services across the Health Centre. We are looking for someone who has a creative mind and a strong passion for designing in an online environment.

The Web Programmer provides creative design and technical build support for corporate projects including our yearly online Annual Report. We are looking for someone who is interested in exploring and developing a comprehensive plan for potential social media opportunities for the Health Centre.

This position also works closely with the Manager of Audio Visual Services to facilitate the rental process for hospital meeting equipment and provides troubleshooting support as needed.

Responsibilities:

This candidate will be responsible for continually developing and growing the functionality of the Health Centre’s website by introducing new web technology and design ideas that create and support a dynamic online environment for our key internal and external stakeholders. This includes building a strategy that is aligned to the Health Centre’s Corporate Communication Plan and that supports the Health Centre’s three year Strategic Plan. The Web Programmer will write content for the website and liaise with other departments across the Health Centre to ensure we have the most timely, accurate, patient and family centred, and accessible information posted that will ultimately support our Vision to be Canada’s Best Community Teaching Hospital.

The Web Programmer will be responsible for implementing innovative functions on St. Joseph’s Intranet site including social media styles of communication and engagement, to support the Health Centre’s overall corporate communication needs. This candidate will build a strategy that will grow and shape our intranet into the central online information resource for staff, physicians, students and volunteers at the Health Centre.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, or a Bachelors Degree in Mathematics or Engineering or equivalent, with at least a minor in programming/software development.
  • Experience programming and implementing software applications in at least three different job contexts for a minimum of six months each.
  • Must be able to work well with other department members to deliver first-rate, service-minded assistance to the entire St. Joseph’s community.
  • Strong background in MySQL, PHP, HTML, Flash, Javascript and CSS.
  • Experience with ASP would be considered an asset.
  • Strong communication & organizational skills.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills; strategic thinking skills, project management skills and requirements gathering skills are an asset.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team member.
  • Ability to work in Tango and SQL 2000 server environments.
  • Solid understanding of the hardware issues/implications of developing/supporting Inter- and Intranet websites to support informed decisions around equipment, software and services purchases.
  • Experience implementing version control software would be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge about the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act and requirements for accessible websites.
  • Prepared to work flexible hours, when necessary.
  • Good attendance record.
